This FREE workshop will provide participants with information and guidance for developing or expanding a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program; it is designed for leadership and staff of schools and school districts, community partners, parents, planners and engineers, advocates, and anyone else who wants to be a champion for SRTS.
Topics will include:
- the benefits of walking and biking to school,
- the process and steps for developing a SRTS program,
- best-practices and lessons-learned from school communities across Indiana,
- no/low-cost strategies for implementing a SRTS program,
- and the development of a statewide network of partners.

The Urban Planning Scholar Series creates a vision for land use and transportation planning in Indiana. The Series was launched in April of 2006 under the leadership of Laurence Brown; in 2008, the Urban Planning Scholar Series became an official education program of Health by Design. The events are organized to raise awareness of often-overlooked issues in community design and to educate professionals and policy-makers about the critical effects on public health, the environment and quality of life.
