Complete Streets for the Crossroads of America

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

The Indiana Complete Streets Campaign launched successfully last month, and statewide legislation (HB 1182) was introduced in the General Assembly.  The original language has been amended significantly, but there is still much to be gained by passing this bill!  We’re now awaiting a Senate hearing, and need your support to keep things moving forward.  Visit the Campaign website to learn more, join the campaign, and to take advocacy actions.  Together we will ensure that Indiana’s transportation network is designed and operated to enable safe access for all users - pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities – in moving along and across roadways.

Complete Streets Training

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Health by Design is thrilled that our next Urban Planning Scholar Series event will focus on Complete Streets. Complete Streets are those that are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users; pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities must be able to safely move along and across a complete street.

We are working with a new format for this UPSS event. The traditional lecture event will be held Monday, June 29, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and will focus on Complete Streets Basics. Then, the event will continue with an additional 1.5 day workshop on Winning Complete Streets in Indiana (Monday, June 29, 1:00-4:00 p.m. and Tuesday, June 30, 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.).

Due to the generous support of our sponsor, AARP, attendance will be FREE for both the lecture and the workshop. Both events will be held at the Indiana Government Center South in Indianapolis. Certification maintenance credits are being requested through AICP for Monday’s lecture only. Both RSVPs and questions can be sent to events@healthbydesignonline.org.
